They took first, second and third in their class in the Coupe du Poitou, first and second at the Ostend week, and in the classic Château-Thierry and Gaillon hill climbs all three 1908 models won their class. The 40 horsepower car driven by M. de Bosredon at Château-Thierry ran the mile a minute and fourteen seconds ahead of the next.

Ernest Montaut (1878-1909) more or less invented the motor-racing print. Working in Paris in the first decade of the century, he drew the cars at full stretch, raked forward, with the road streaming away behind them and dust boiling off the wheels - a way of showing speed that motoring artists have borrowed ever since.

This plate comes from Montaut's album "10 ans de courses: les marques victorieuses 1897-1907" - ten years of racing and the marques that won it. Each plate records one victory from the great town-to-town races and Gordon Bennett contests, with the result printed on the tissue guard laid over it, and the plates were coloured by hand.

Reproduced from a high-resolution scan of the original album plate, with the plate's own paper kept around the image as Montaut's printer left it. Printed on archival cotton-fibre paper when your order is placed, and mounted with a border of equal width on every side so the plate sits centred in the frame.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0886/6414/6261/files/gallery-0_c2262f70-c0a8-4c93-a35f-b1eb569902a6.jpg?v=1792767847
