Houlgate and Cabourg sit side by side on the Calvados coast, Belle Époque resorts of long villas and longer promenades - Cabourg is the Balbec of Proust's novel. Golf arrived with the same English visitors who made the resorts, and the seaside links became part of the season's furniture.

Trained as an architect at the École des Beaux-Arts, René Vincent brought a draughtsman's precision to commercial art and became one of the defining illustrators of the French motoring age. He worked for Peugeot, Bugatti, Michelin and the oil companies, and his elongated, sharply observed figures capture the between-the-wars bourgeoisie at its most self-assured.

Restored from a high-resolution scan of an original lithograph, with the scanning marks and mount board removed so that only the poster itself is printed. Printed to order on cotton-fibre archival paper, with optional mounting and hand-finished framing in our own workshop.
